The One

Luke 15: 1-7

"1 Now the tax collectors and sinners were all gathering around to hear Jesus. 2 But the Pharisees and the teachers of the law muttered, “This man welcomes sinners and eats with them.” 3 Then Jesus told them this parable: 4 “Suppose one of you has a hundred sheep and loses one of them. Doesn’t he leave the ninety-nine in the open country and go after the lost sheep until he finds it? 5 And when he finds it, he joyfully puts it on his shoulders 6 and goes home. Then he calls his friends and neighbors together and says, ‘Rejoice with me; I have found my lost sheep.’ 7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent."

Jesus is in a relentless pursuit of you. He wants to find you and He wants you to find Him. The Bible tells us that heaven rejoices when even one sinner repents. To repent means to turn back to God, acknowledging our need for His forgiveness. We all fall short, but recognizing our need for a Savior and returning to Him is our part. When we do, Jesus lovingly lifts us up, like a shepherd carrying a lost lamb, and places us back on the right path.

It’s similar to a parent who briefly loses a child at a theme park—filled with urgency, they leave everything behind to find them. This is how Jesus pursues us. If you feel lost, know that He is searching for you, ready to bring you back into His care. You are so valuable to Him that He would leave the ninety-nine to rescue the one. His desire is for no one to be lost—He wants you to find Him just as much as He longs to find you.
